Meaning ‘The Land that Gives Life’ in Ojibwe (Anishinaabe), Pimachiowin Aki is an un-fragmented landscape at the heart of the Boreal forest that has seen continual habitation by indigenous people for over 6000 years. A thriving ecosystem of Boreal diversity including threatened woodland caribou, a proposal developed by local First Nations and the Manitoba government seeks UNESCO World Heritage Status for this region.
